Hybrid Snowboards

For the past week or so in my graphic design class we have been working on a brand identity. We got to choose any company name that we wanted (as long as it had to do with the word cross.) So, I looked on dictionary.com and found like 63 definitions for the word. I ended up with a word that means cross: hybrid, and the company is Hybrid Snowboards.
Basically, a snowboarding company that uses organic wood, glue, and other materials to make the most eco- friendly boards possible (hence the name "hybrid".)

-Here are my logo and some type that I created for the company. The top is a typeface I created to go in magazines and such (to use when the logo and mark aren't needed), and the bottom is my logo and the type that will accompany it sometimes. Let me know what you think.

i really like the first one. I say... merge the h and y in the first and add a circle that just barely crosses between the hy and brid and see what happens. if it sucks... dont tell me.

they look amazing! are they your final ones?

Thanks for the feedback. And no they are not final, we just still have like 2 weeks before they're due. So, I'm still gonna work on some stuff with them (but we have to create other stuff with these (letterhead, business card, and a poster)).

the concept behind the h+y is nice. but the type for 'snowboards' is so boring! is that myriad?

type is the single most important design element to me. it's absolutely CRUCIAL. you can make a poster with type only, and a poster with photography only... but moreso the former than the latter.

avoid using anything default, or anything you'd see walking around campus. this includes myriad, copperplate, papyrus, comic sans, times new roman, georgia, tahoma, etc...

check out ITC Officina Sans, Helvetica Neue, DIN, Gotham, Avenir, and News Gothic. i know some of these are on the font server at school. or if you look em up online and find one you like, tell me. i'll email it to you if i have it.
